Working in groups of 4 and under court officials' watchful eyes, volunteers have begun the recount process in last month's Democratic primary for governor. Peter Shumlin finished first in the initial vote count. Officials say the recount could run into next week.


More than 60 members of the Vermont National Guard are about to head to Iraq. The members of the oft-deployed Guard air ambulance company will leave Friday on a 1-year mission after training in Texas. More than two-thirds of the company's members have been deployed on multiple missions.


Some clinics plan to offer flu vaccine by later this month, saying there is an ample supply of vaccine this season. Compared to last year's H1N1 flu scare that forced people to get two shots, health officials tell the Rutland Herald only one shot will be needed this year to prevent three strains of the virus -- including H1N1.
